To start your bookkeeping business is simple. You can either start on your own or you can partner with us.

Option A - Start On you Own

1. To start with you will first have to purchase an accounting software package such as Quickbooks or Myob. If you already have potential clients and know which accounting software they are using (if any), then you can also purchase that accounting software. Otherwise you could go in for Quickbooks accounting software package as it is the most widely used.
2. Source clients. Get the word out with your friends and acquaintances of your offering bookkeeping services. Visit local businesses and offer your services. You can also visit local CPAs and professional bookkeepers. Advertise in the local media. A lot of CPAs also outsource their bookkeeping.
   To quote the charges, you can first inquire of the running rates in your locality. The charges could be based on time i.e. $X/hour, or it could be based on the number of transactions, or you could also negotiate a lumpsum amount.

Note - For deciding what rates to charge, do not benchmark out rates and get disappointed. You can charge much more than that.
